![]() My next post will be a personal update dedicated to my Patreon supporters. I feel happier and more powerful when I try to expand my free will and make more conscious decisions, even in the face of the knowledge that I will always have more responsibilities in life than I have control (as is true for everyone who makes serious commitments to other people, organizations, and/or ideals). But still, we have the ability to make decisions, to change our own behaviors, and to influence others. ![]() 4 Stacks and 5 Stacks are not available in the game anymore. They are totally different from arrows, banknotes, etc, and are credited to you automatically. Even our own personal decisions are highly governed by instinct, reactions, and deeply ingrained habits. To get Stacks in A Universal Time you need to play and stay in any AUT server for its Spawn Rate of at least 30 minutes. Most of the world operates outside of our personal control and influence. This is an excellent antidote to the apparent uncaring/cruel nature of structurally lower levels of reality. I can choose to be kind to my fellow humans and animals, and to accept kindness from a multitude of sources. But kindness is emergent at social levels and above, and is hugely abundant among those reality levels. Kindness is not an emergent property of the physical, chemical, biological, or somatic levels of reality (see NENT), and thus phenomena at those levels (such as earthquakes, floods, asteroid impacts, supervolcanoes, illness, aging, etc.) can appear unkind/uncaring to human beings. The values and attitudes that create this feeling of empowerment (not all the time, but sometimes) include: The world is filled with suffering that I can do very little to prevent (including, at times, my own).Īt other times, I feel incredibly optimistic and empowered, even in the face of my own nihilistic worldview. There is no inherent meaning in life, so I must create my own meaning (or live a subjectively meaningless life). Sometimes this nihilistic realization gets me down. Mercy and fairness are entirely human constructs, and those that would ascribe such qualities to a creator or god must undergo mental gymnastics of the highest order to stave off crippling cognitive dissonance. Good people die young for no good reason, animals in the wild are painfully eaten alive by their predators, and entire civilizations are beset by war, famine, and plague. One doesn’t have to look far to find overwhelming evidence that the universe is an uncaring place, and that life doesn’t play fair. Things flow without anyone having to make a special effort.Leia, looking toward the future, or possibly at a squirrel. If people aren’t trying to impose or show off, this happens naturally. Ideally, everyone should be able to participate. Monopolizing conversations or steering them towards subjects that aren’t of general interest is bad for communication. This is the only way to establish good communication. There’s a time to speak and a time to listen. In an atmosphere of genuine warmth, everyone understands the importance of balance in interactions. Both parties effortlessly perceive the importance of the back-and-forth in a good conversation. Finding balance in the conversationįew people are well-versed in the art of conversation. All of these things relax the speaker and make everyone feel more connected. Smiles are also signs of approval and acceptance. They knock down any barriers that may exist. These gestures, however small they may seem, make it easy for people to express themselves. Nodding your head or leaning slightly towards the other person will encourage the speaker to keep talking. Kind people make gestures of approval when other people speak. They do that to encourage conversation and signal that they’re listening. We live longer, healthier, more meaningful lives when we just be kind. Widen your circle of compassion to encompass all beings. They know how to listen, even if they don’t agree with the other person. Don’t limit your kindness to certain people and scenarios. Truly kind people respect other people’s opinions.
